Exploring the Spirituality of Recovery
By Carl Laur
Especially for friends of Bill Wilson and all 12-Step programs...
Carl W. Laur, a follower of Jesus Christ and a friend of people in recovery everywhere, talks about the spiritual foundations of recovery. How did Alcoholics Anonymous start, and why is it going strong today? Are there ways to benefit from the Steps, even if I'm not an alcoholic? Is this simple program of recovery essentially a spiritual program?
“The word Christian appears only twice in the entire Bible – and Jesus never used it! There are many ways to meditate on God, and folk are offended at the thought of being told how they should understand God. That is not my intention here. We will, however, look at what God is doing for us, miracles of recovery, with the teachings of Jesus close at hand.
“At the very least, we will come to know one another better. What will benefit us beyond that – I think you will agree with me – only God knows. In truth, God is doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
“I welcome your questions and comments. Frankly, I need your help – I know I know only a little. As a journalist, I pledge to you that your anonymity will be respected, but please do provide a way for me to reach you. It is important for us to correspond. “A grateful welcome to all who freely choose to join in this adventure!” - Carl
