Ministry of a Grandma:
"First Born Son"
by Michelle Shelfer
I was the last in my family to come to know Yeshua as Lord and Savior, and I am so thankful to my husband and children for praying for me faithfully for many years. My new life in Messiah began after my children had already left the nest, so although I taught them love for God in a general way, I never had the blessing of discipling them as a parent, until God graciously compensated for this loss of opportunity by allowing my daughter to return home with her new husband and live with us for 19 months during her pregnancy and the first year of their marriage. It was a blessed time of discipleship and growing together beyond mother and daughter, as sisters in Messiah.
A New Generation
As soon as my first grandchild was born I began asking myself, "how do you share the gospel with a wee child?" Well, the answer for a singer/songwriter naturally gravitates toward music. I am now the grandmother of seven grandchildren, and each has a song written just for them, and each song has its own way of teaching about God.
First Born Son
This musical offering was written for my son's first son. The wonderful thing about children's music is that it gets listened to a whole bunch more than adults would prefer! By the evening of the day I sent this song to my son's family, they had been listening to it on repeat all day long and knew it quite by heart. What greater opportunity could one have for planting the seed of the gospel in the hearts of our beloved wee ones?
